INTELLIGENT ROBOTICS & AUTONOMOUS
"When things are on an exponential curve, it’s very difficult to wrap our minds around it working on a linear base."
Elon Musk
Intelligent robots are leaving the factory floor and entering warehouses, hospitals, farms, and even our homes. Whether it is a robot safely moving goods, an autonomous vehicle helping people travel, or a drone inspecting hard‑to‑reach places, these systems combine sensing, movement, and decision‑making in the physical world. Through Intelligent Robotics & Autonomous Systems, you explore how to build machines that can operate reliably, collaborate with people, and transform how work gets done.
The Intelligent Robotics & Autonomous (IRA) program is designed to combine robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and control systems to create robots and autonomous systems. The goal is to produce engineers capable of designing intelligent machines that can move, see, and make decisions independently without human intervention.
Upon completion of your degree, you may pursue careers as:
- Robotics Engineer
- Automation Engineer
- Autonomous Vehicle Engineer
- AI Robotics Specialist
- Control Systems Engineer
- Drone Software Engineer
Learning is conducted in robotics laboratories with a hardware-in-the-loop approach. You will use advanced robotics simulation environments before implementing them on physical robots. You will also work on diverse robotics projects such as industrial manipulators, service robots, and autonomous mobile robots that address real-world challenges across various sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, and public services.
In this specialization, you will learn how to build intelligent robots from the ground up. You will start by understanding the basic components of a robot, including how sensors detect the environment and how motors enable movement. You will also learn to program microcontrollers the "brain" of the robot to execute commands and respond to inputs.
